May 31st, 2011... A very special day in my life!

Here's a very special blog as I am about to introduce you to my little sister Georgia Carlaw Richards!!! She was born at 10:14 on Tuesday May 31st, 2011. She weighted 7.6 pounds, was 52 centimeters and was beautiful from the first instant.

So let me describe the day of her birth and the following days spent at the hospital from what mummy has told me...

We originally thought she would arrive on May 27Th (pappie's birthday - yes, it was a little disappointing when we found out it wouldn't be) as that was the original date discussed with mummy's obstetrician but because of the big amount of c-section at the hospital that dat they moved it to the 31st. It worked pretty well in the end as mummy was only due for the 10Th of June and Georgia was still quite happy in her belly.

Mummy didn't get much sleep the two nights before the big day, she was very anxious to see Georgia for the first time. On the morning of the 31st, I was waken up at 6 o'clock, which is very unusual as mummy and I normally take it pretty easy in the morning and wake up around 7.30 or 8, have a relaxing breakfast in the living room watching the morning news and normally leave the house around 8.30 or 9 to get me into daycare for around 9.30, on the days I do go to daycare. But that morning was out of the ordinary, mummy seamed very nervous but also very excited. Daddy on the other hand, looked very pale, actually at one stage he was green and mummy looked pretty annoyed about it!?! So anyways we dropped mummy at the hospital and daddy then dropped me at daycare around 7. Daddy went back to the hospital with mummy and a few hours later the magic happened, my little sister was born!

Mummy got settled into their room while daddy was dropping me at daycare and a nurse came and prepared her for the surgery. The nurse was apparently a little older than the other ones and was very comforting. Mummy really appreciated it as she could relax a little talking and listening to her and her advises. Not that daddy wasn't comforting...

So here's daddy not to confuse with Dr. Sheppard

Here's the last picture of mummy taken with Georgia in her belly.

And finally my little sister, a few minutes after birth!

The traditional picture with the All Black hat. The exact same hat I was wearing after birth!

After the surgery mummy had to go into a recovery room for a couple of hours, she thought it was very hard not to be with Georgia straight away but was happy daddy was having this special moment with his new daughter.

Mummy finally came back and a few hours later pappie, mammie, Andre and I came for a quick visit.
Here's a proud pappie!

A cesarean is quite a major surgery you know and laughing, coughing or sneezing is very painful afterwards. But mummy did laugh a little when she saw me in Georgia's hospital bed... I had to show everyone that I wasn't that much bigger and could still do just about the same things Georgia does.

Daddy's first few diapers change, not that easy to manipulate a new born but daddy is actually pretty good with babies...

Getting to know each others...

Georgia's first bath.

I had a fun time at home with mammie at home while mummy and daddy were at the hospital with Georgia. It was a great surprise though when they got home unexpected Thursday early afternoon. The doctors agreed to send them home as mummy and Georgia were doing fantastic.

Here's a picture of Georgia just before she left the hospital to come home for the first time.
